Olympic stamp exhibition celebrates Hong Kong's finest moment

This coming Thursday, 7 October 2004, will surely be a busy day for Hong Kong's 2004 Olympic Men's Table Tennis Doubles silver medallists, Mr. KO Lai-chak and Mr. LI Ching as they will be present at the issuing ceremony of the Hongkong Post's special Heartwarming Stamps featuring "Congratulations to the Hong Kong Team on Winning the Silver Medal in the Men's Table Tennis Doubles at the 2004 Olympic Games".

The issuing ceremony will take place at 9:00am on 7 October 2004 in the Counter Hall, 1/F., General Post Office and will be officiated by Mr. Allan CHIANG, Postmaster General and Mr. Timothy FOK, President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. After the ceremony, Mr. CHIANG together with Mr. FOK will be available to autograph the souvenir covers for 20 lucky participants, who later at 10:00am, will also be able to obtain signatures on the souvenir covers from Mr. KO and Mr. LI, Hong Kong's two Silver Medallists. At 10:30am, 80 Souvenir Covers pre-signed by Mr. LI Ching and Mr. KO Lai-chak, will be available for redemption by another 80 people.

An exhibition specially arranged for commemorating the outstanding achievement of the Hong Kong team at the 2004 Olympic Games will open to the public at Noon on 7 October 2004 in the Postal Gallery located on the G/F, General Post Office. The exhibition will last for three weeks until 28 October 2004. The exhibits displayed will include Olympic Games collections on loan from Mr. Timothy FOK, President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, stamp products depicting 2004 Olympic Games issued by postal administrations worldwide and also "Olympic Games" stamp albums developed by the China National Postage Stamp Museum.

A fascinating collection of personal memorabilia belonging to the Olympic Medallists will also be on display in the Counter Hall, 1/F., General Post Office during the same period.

Mr. Allan CHIANG, Postmaster General, states: "It will definitely be a very exciting and enjoyable day, both for supporters of the Hong Kong Olympic Team and for our many avid philatelists. We are grateful to Mr. Timothy FOK, who has generously lent us his collections. We are also honoured to have the support from the two Silver Medallists in allowing us to display their trophies, pictures and table tennis paddles for the entire duration of the exhibition. This unique exhibition represents a great opportunity to keep the Olympic spirit alive in Hong Kong."
