The Postmaster General, Mr. Allan CHIANG, announced today (10 December) that the latest date for posting Christmas mail for local delivery before Christmas is Wednesday 22 December. Postings after this date might run the risk of not being delivered in time because of anticipated seasonal pressure of work. He advised members of the public to post as early as possible in order to avoid a last minute rush.
During the Christmas Holidays (i.e. 25 - 27 December), there would be one mail delivery on Saturday, 25 December 2004. No delivery service will be made on 26 and 27 December 2004. All post offices would be closed during the holidays except Airport Post Office, General Post Office and Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office which will open on Sunday, 26 December 2004 for provision of a full range of counter service. The business hours will be from 9a.m. to 2p.m.
One mail collection daily would be arranged on 25, 26 and 27 December from all street posting boxes except those which are located on outlying islands and in remote areas.
"The mail collection arrangements will serve to advance the processing of letters posted during the holidays and hence improve the quality of letter service to the public." said Mr. CHIANG.
To ensure that greetings sent by air mail are delivered before Christmas, Mr. CHIANG reminded members of the public to post their mail on or before the latest dates of posting tabulated below:
