Special Stamp Issue - "Hong Kong Disneyland Grand Opening"
The Postmaster General, Mr. Allan CHIANG, announced today that a set of special stamps will be issued to mark the grand opening of Hong Kong Disneyland on Monday, 12 September 2005.
Hongkong Post will issue a set of four commemorative stamps, a souvenir sheet, a stamp sheetlet and a gold-foiled stamp sheetlet on 12 September 2005. A Souvenir Pack will also be available, containing a set of the "Hong Kong Disneyland" stamps issued in 2003 to commemorate the groundbreaking, together with a set of the new "Hong Kong Disneyland Grand Opening" stamps and a gold-foiled stamp sheetlet.
The set of special stamps consists of views of four themed lands familiar to Disney lovers worldwide. The $1.40 stamp features Disney's version of Main Street, U.S.A., the $2.40 stamp depicts the wonders of Fantasyland and the $3 stamp gives us an enticing view of Adventureland. The $5 stamp presents a glimpse of the future with its theme of Tomorrowland. And not to be forgotten, of course, is the world's favourite mouse, Mickey, who is shown celebrating the grand opening of the magical new park on the $5 stamp sheetlet.
"The opening of the Disneyland in Hong Kong is no doubt a reason for Hong Kong people to celebrate," said Mr. CHIANG. "Not only will it bring those who visit it many hours of pleasure, but it will also draw tourism from around the world and provide work for many local people in a broad range of activities from the hospitality industry to the leisure sector. Hongkong Post is pleased to produce this very special set of stamps, which are sure to delight stamp collectors of all ages."
The stamps and stamp sheetlets are designed by Walt Disney Imagineering and printed in lithography by Cartor Security Printing, France. The gold-foiled stamp sheetlet is printed in lithography plus embossing and hot foil stamping with 22-carat gold. A complementary element to this stamp issue is a set of four postage prepaid airmail picture cards.
The stamps will be displayed in the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsuen Wan and Shatin Central post offices from 22 August 2005. Official First Day Covers at $1 each will be put on sale at all post offices on the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided souvenir covers will be accepted at 39 philatelic offices from 22 to 29 August 2005.
A hand-back datestamping service will be provided at all post offices on 12 September 2005 for official and privately-made covers, bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address. A special postmark will be introduced, and this will be available together with the GPO-1 postmark, the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark and the philatelic office pictorial postmark, for hand-back datestamping service at all philatelic offices on that day.
Also on 12 September 2005, the public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for datestamping covers with the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark, the GPO-1 postmark and the special postmark.
