Hongkong Post "Love and Care Day" on 15 September 2005
Hongkong Post offers free local posting to link caring hearts
The Assistant Postmaster General (Business Development) Mr. Dan CHOI, is pleased to announce that 15 September 2005 is designated as "Hongkong Post Love and Care Day" in support of its service culture of "Care from the Heart". This follows the success of last year's Love and Care Day when the offer of a free local delivery of a personal letter was launched to show customers how much they are valued.
Letter-writing is an indispensable means of communication and its power to express love and care is very touching to the reader. Therefore, Hongkong Post is again organising the "One Person, One Letter" activity for Love and Care Day, during which customers are invited to send one letter to a special recipient in Hong Kong, postage-free at designated post offices. Having reviewed customers' suggestions after last year's Love and Care Day, Hongkong Post has responded by increasing the number of designated post offices from four to ten, covering Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. This will enable more customers to participate in this memorable loving and caring activity this year. As a special gift to visiting customers on that day, all post offices will offer them a free Octopus cardholder till stock last.
One of the key corporate values of Hongkong Post, namely "Care from the Heart", flourishes in the hearts of its staff. A voluntary organisation, the PostCare Club, has been formed by post office staff to offer community services to those in need. This year, a very special activity organised by the PostCare Club is the delivery of free mooncakes to a group of retired miners residing in the Ma On Shan area. More than fifty elderly people live in this remote settlement and on 11 September the club members will visit them, deliver to them mooncakes among other commodities, and provide some enjoyable entertainment as well. While there, the enthusiastic volunteers will also use their core skills to write letters for the miners.
Apart from the activities arranged for customers, Hongkong Post will also organise "Care from the Heart" programmes for staff and their families in support of the Love and Care Day. These include family visits to post offices, children's games and other fun-filled activities.
Mr. CHOI states, "The free delivery of local letters is a Hongkong Post activity very much in keeping with the 'Linking People' aspect of our corporate purpose statement, 'Linking People, Delivering Business'. I am especially pleased to note the extra effort made by the members of our PostCare Club. They have organised the delivery of mooncakes and daily commodities and have offered to write letters for the retired miners, on their own initiative and in their own time."
