Hongkong Post Stamp Mosaic Competition Number of Stamps Used - Give it a Guess

A unique, gigantic stamp mosaic, measuring 6.45m wide and 3.97m high, has been for the first time, created by Hongkong Post both to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Post Office Trading Fund.

This masterpiece was produced by the staff of Hongkong Post and their families. It is composed of used stamps collected from the staff and 98 postal administrations. The last piece of the mosaic, depicting the General Post Office with gold-foiled stamps, was fitted to the design jointly by the Chief Executive the Honourable Donald Tsang and the Postmaster General, Mr. Allan Chiang at the celebration ceremony on 30 August 2005.

The stamp mosaic has rightly demonstrated the team spirit and creativity of Hongkong Post as well as the solidarity among postal administrations. In order to encourage the Hong Kong people to share Hongkong Post's spirit and creativity, Hongkong Post now invites the public to guess the number of stamps used in the mosaic.

Customers are invited to collect application forms from any of our post offices or submit an electronic entry form to Hongkong Post website (www.hongkongpost.com). The deadline for the submission will be 20 October 2005. The participants with the correct answer or the number closest to the correct answer will be winners. The grand prize winner will be awarded one souvenir set of crystal posting boxes plus Local Standing Order Service Membership with free commemorative and definitive stamps and stamps sheetlets issued in 2006. Another 100 consolation prize winners will be awarded Local Standing Order Service Membership with free commemorative and definitive stamps and stamps sheetlets issued in 2006.

The stamp mosaic is now on display at the Counter Hall, 1/F of General Post Office.

Unique Features of the Stamp Mosaic

* The mosaic, measuring 6.45 meters in width and 3.97 meters in height is probably the world's largest mosaic of used stamps. Hongkong Post has filed an application to the Guinness Book of World Records in an attempt to gain another entry for Hong Kong.

* It is produced by Hongkong Post's staff and their families. For the first time in Hong Kong, tens of thousands of used stamps donated by staff and overseas Postal Administrations were assembled to outline the skyline of Hong Kong, Asia's World City.

* It took almost a year from design to complete. Over a thousand Hongkong Post staff and their families participated in affixing the stamps during their spare time. The last piece of the mosaic was inserted jointly by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, the Honourable Donald Tsang and the Postmaster General, Mr. Allan Chiang, at the celebration reception of the 10th Anniversary of the Post Office Trading Fund on 30 August 2005.

* The mosaic demonstrates not only the team spirit and creativity of Hongkong Post, but also the solidarity among Postal Administrations. It also promotes the positive message that communication by posting letters is an effective and warm way to link people and businesses.
