Enjoy Substantial Savings with Periodicals Service

Hongkong Post Periodicals Service offers customers a reliable delivery service with substantial postage savings. This service, which caters for information-oriented periodicals* such as magazines, journals and research papers of general interests, features specially structure and cost effective rates for both local and overseas mailings.

To enjoy our user-friendly Periodicals Service, please register the titles of your publication with the Financial Services Division of Hongkong Post prior to posting.

*The Periodicals Service is not applicable for promotional materials such as company reports, direct mail catalogues and commercial advertising materials.

Service Conditions

Registration Each title has to be registered and pre-approved by the Hongkong Post Financial Services Division prior to posting.
Issue frequency At least three (3) issues a year.
Publication content
  • Primarily paper-based, non-fragile and information-oriented content, such as magazines, journals and research papers of general interests. Not applicable for company reports, direct mail catalogues and commercial advertising materials.
  • Customers in using the service shall agree Hongkong Post officers to inspect the content at posting.
Posting method
  • A Permit No.* has to be applied for each title at the Financial Services Division prior to posting.
  • The Permit indicator should be printed at the top right-hand corner of the envelope.
  • A Permit Mailing authority card and a Periodicals Service authority card will be issued to the approved titles.
  • Senders shall show the Permit Mailing and Periodicals Service authority cards to the staff of acceptance office in each posting.

Minimum posting quantity/weight
  • Minimum quantity per title per posting: 500 items; and
  • Minimum total posting quantity per title in a calendar year: 2,000 items (Posting quantity for the first year shall be calculated on a pro-rata basis.)
  • Minimum weight per item: 80g
  • Minimum weight per posting: 10kg/posting; and 5kg/destination
(Failure to meet the quantity or weight requirement will automatically invalidate the title¡¯s eligibility for the Periodicals Service. Re-application for the Periodicals Service is required and will be accepted only after a lapse of a calendar year.)
Segregation requirements
  • All items should be identical in size, shape and weight.
  • All items should be bundled or boxed in 100 with the address labels in one direction.
  • Items should be packed in separate mail bags according to titles and destinations. All bags should be made up as closely as possible to the maximum weight of 30kg.
  • Mail bags, labels and posting forms may be collected from the acceptance offices.
